General transferable skills: Nottingham Trent University
Strategy and target group
Skills are seen as transferable and are presented as such. Skills training is developed throughout the three year degree.
Specific skills module or integration of skills?
There is a legal skills programme throughout the course and a compulsory mooting module, with various other skills integrated into the substantive law courses. The legal skills programme is compulsory for all students, so that they come into contact with certain skills. Throughout specific courses individual tutors may implement their own ideas.
Specific skills
The legal skills programme requires students to give presentations, work as part of a team, use information technology, carry out legal research and advocacy. In terms of teamwork students are encouraged, in a final year module to produce group coursework which is then assessed. Alternatively students opt to work individually.
Information technology is assessed as part of the legal research programme. Students are introduced to a variety of computerised legal information retrieval systems and wordprocessing packages.
